Nord Technology supplies Single Board Computers (SBCs) and System on Modules (SoMs) for industrial embedded systems, automation, IoT, Edge Computing, machine control and custom electronic solutions.
Our portfolio includes platforms from CompuLab and JHCTECH based on NXP i.MX processors and Intel architectures. The range covers everything from compact System on Modules to complete industrial Single Board Computers with Ethernet, USB, serial interfaces, CAN, display connectivity, storage and other I/O options.
Nord Technology has extensive experience with Linux and Open Source and can assist with hardware selection, Linux installation, Board Support Packages (BSPs), system images, hardware integration, IT security and preparation for volume production.
Note: The products shown on this page represent only a selection of our complete range.
Through our supplier network, we can provide additional SBC, SoM and embedded computing platforms as well as custom configurations.
Single Board Computer or System on Module?
A Single Board Computer (SBC) is a complete computer integrated onto a single circuit board. The processor, memory, storage, power management and key interfaces are already integrated. This makes an industrial SBC a practical choice when a compact computing platform needs to be integrated quickly into a machine, terminal, IoT Gateway or other embedded system.
A System on Module (SoM) contains the main computing functions on a smaller module but requires a separate carrier board to provide power, networking, display connections, serial interfaces and other external functions. The carrier board can be designed specifically for the requirements of the application.
This provides greater flexibility in terms of mechanics, interfaces and functionality, making SoM solutions particularly well suited for OEM projects and volume production where size, power consumption, I/O and long-term product availability need to be optimised.

Embedded Linux for SBCs and System on Modules
Linux is a central part of many industrial embedded systems. Several CompuLab platforms support Debian Linux and Yocto Project with manufacturer-provided Board Support Packages, Linux kernel, U-Boot, device tree files and development resources.
Nord Technology has worked professionally with Linux and Open Source since 2001 and can assist with:
- Debian, Yocto Linux and embedded Linux
- Board Support Packages and hardware integration
- Linux kernel, device tree and U-Boot
- Docker and container-based applications
- Custom Linux images and software configuration
- Network and security configuration
- Controlled software and update strategies
- Preparation of consistent system images for volume production
This makes it possible to create an embedded computing platform where both hardware and software are tailored to the specific application.
NXP i.MX System on Modules for IoT and Edge Computing
A large part of our System on Module portfolio is based on the NXP i.MX processor family. These ARM-based processors are designed for embedded and industrial applications and combine low power consumption with industrial connectivity and long-term availability.
Newer platforms such as NXP i.MX93 and i.MX95 also provide capabilities for Edge Computing and local AI processing. Depending on the processor and configuration, these platforms can offer NPU acceleration, real-time co-processors, CAN-FD, Ethernet, MIPI, LVDS, GPIO and a wide range of serial interfaces.
Typical applications include:
- Industrial automation and control
- IoT Gateways and Edge Computing
- Machine vision
- HMI and industrial displays
- Robotics, AGV and AMR systems
- Energy systems
- Data acquisition and monitoring
- Transport and telematics
- Medical and laboratory equipment
- Custom embedded products

Long-Term Product Availability and Industrial Integration
In industrial and OEM projects, long-term product availability can be just as important as processing performance. Several current CompuLab SBC and SoM platforms offer documented availability well into the 2030s, making them suitable for products that need to remain in production and service for many years.
Depending on the platform, options can also include industrial temperature ranges, hardware watchdog, Secure Boot and other features designed for continuous operation and embedded integration.
Custom SBC and System on Module Solutions
The choice between a Single Board Computer and a System on Module depends on factors such as production volume, mechanical requirements, required interfaces, software environment, power consumption and long-term product availability.
Nord Technology can support projects from initial technical evaluation and prototype development through to volume production. We can assist with processor platform selection, RAM and storage, carrier boards, interfaces, Linux, drivers, system images, networking and IT security.
Our goal is to provide a stable embedded computing platform that matches the hardware requirements, software environment, expected product lifetime and long-term production needs of the application.
